How to easily transfer contacts, photos, and videos from an iPhone to another

Contacts should transfer in a matter of seconds, however if you have hundreds or thousands of photos and videos, it’s going to take a while. Just make sure not to quit the apps on both devices during transfer.
For alternative options, you can also read out post about how to transfer photos and videos from your old to new iPhone.
What method do you use to transfer your data to a new device? I personally like to start fresh and don’t transfer any photos. I just let iCloud take care of my contacts. Share your experience below.
Depending on your set up, transferring contacts, photos and videos from your old iPhone to your new one can be pretty simple. You might use iCloud to store all this data, in which case, your contacts and photos/videos will automatically come back once you sign in your new device. Or maybe you back it all up in iTunes, which allows you to sync all that data from your computer to your new iPhone. Maybe you don’t do any of that, and if you’re looking for a relatively quick and easy way to transfer all this data from one iPhone to another, then read on.
There definitely are several ways you can go about transferring content from one iPhone to another, and one I just found out about relies on an application by US carrier AT&T, called AT&T Mobile Transfer, a free download in the App Store. The best part is, you apparently don’t even need to be an AT&T customer to use this application.
In this post, I will show you how to use the AT&T Mobile Transfer app to move your photos, videos, and contacts from one iPhone to another. This is obviously pretty handy if you just got a new iPhone and want to transfer all this data without stressing too much about how to go about it.
1) Download the AT&T Mobile Transfer application on both devices (the iPhone you want to transfer From, and the iPhone you want to transfer To).
2) Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
3) Open the application on the old iPhone. Tap on the “From this device” button at the bottom of the screen. The application will briefly scan your device and ask permission to access your contacts, as well as your photo library. You obviously want to allow it access.

4) The app will now display a QR code, which will be used by the other iPhone (the new one). Keep this screen on as you move to the next steps.
5) Open the AT&T Mobile Transfer app on the new iPhone, and tap on the “To this device” at the bottom of the screen.
6) You will now be asked to enter your phone number. But if you aren’t an AT&T customer, fear not, because this step is virtually useless. Simply enter 10 digits, and you will be good to go. No need to enter an actual phone number. Tap Next to move to the next step.
7) The application will request access to your contacts and photo library. Again, you want to make sure you allow it access.
8) Now you will be able to scan the QR code that was presented to you in step 4 above. With your iPhone, aim at the QR code, which the app will quickly recognize.
 9) You will now see some basic transfer options. You can choose to transfer all content at once, or selectively choose contacts, or photos, or videos. The app also gives an estimate of how long it will take to transfer all your data. For example, it would take about 49 minutes to transfer my 227 contacts, 1,606 photos, and 37 videos.
10) When you’re done selecting what you want to transfer, tap the Transfer button in the upper right corner. Transfer will then start. From there, you will just have to be patient, and make sure you don’t touch either devices until the transfer is completed. Note you can abort the transfer at any time by tapping on the Stop button.

How to stop your iPhone from vibrating when your alarm rings

By default, any time you set an alarm on your iPhone, it’ll vibrate when the alarm goes off. For some people, this is a good way to help get woken up, but for others it’s a waste of battery and can be completely annoying to hear that loud vibration on the night stand.
In this tutorial, intended for iPhone users only, we’ll be showing you how you can set up an alarm so that your iPhone doesn’t vibrate when it goes off.

Hate when your iPhone vibrates when an alarm goes off? Here’s the fix

Whether you rely on your iPhone to get up every morning, or you use alarms to remind you of things throughout the day, the process to set up an alarm in the Clock app is going to be the same.
It’s really not that difficult to keep your iPhone from vibrating when the alarm goes off. This option is hidden right under your nose from the alarm settings when you configure it for the first time.
Here are the steps to follow whether you’re creating a new alarm for the first time:
1) Launch the Clock app and tap on the Alarm tab, then tap on the button to create a new alarm.
4) Here, you’ll get to configure what type of vibration occurs when your iPhone starts to sound an alarm. If you don’t want any vibration, then choose None from the list.
5) After picking None for vibration, you can go back to the main alarm setup by tapping the back button a few times in the navigation bar and you can tap on the Save button to save the alarm without any vibration.
If you’ve got an existing alarm and you aren’t creating a new one, then the steps are almost the same, but you’re just going to edit the current alarm.
To do that, follow these steps:
1) Launch the Clock app and open the Alarm tab.
2) Tap on the Edit button in the navigation bar to enter alarm editing mode.
3) Tap on the alarm you wish to remove vibration from. In this case, it’s the 7:30 AM one we have configured.
4) On the next page, you’ll open the Sound cell.
5) Now open the Vibration cell that you’ll see in the new page that opens.

6) Set the vibration to None so that your iPhone doesn’t vibrate at all when the alarm goes off.
7) Tap the back button a few times to get back to the alarm settings page and tap on theSave button in the navigation bar to save your changes.
Now you’ve just disabled vibration and the next time your alarm goes off, your iPhone won’t vibrate like it usually does when the alarm goes off.

Conclusion

If your iPhone lays on a night stand and vibrates in the morning, you know how horrific that vibration can sound, and quite honestly, that vibration can sometimes be more annoying than the alarm itself. This simple tip will hopefully help you wake up in a happier mood without that nasty vibration.

How to delete recent Apple Music searches from your iPhone

Apple Music, which is Apple’s own answer to the music-streaming industry, is a great place to easily search for a song you want to listen to and then play it on demand.
The only problem is, Apple Music keeps a running history of the songs you search for.
So now when you have your co-pilot in the passenger seat of your car choose a new song for you (because we know you don’t use your iPhone and drive at the same time!) he’s going to laugh at you because of the last time you felt like jamming out to some really embarrassing music.
Well fret not; in this tutorial, we’ll show you how you can delete recent searches from the Apple Music app on your iOS device.

Clearing recent searches from Apple Music in iOS

Since you may not want people to be able to see what kinds of music you’ve searched for in the past for privacy reasons, we’ll be showing you how to clear that history so no one can see what you’ve searched in Apple Music.
To do so, follow these steps:
1) Launch the Music app from your Home screen.
2) Tap on the Search button at the top right of the app to reveal the app’s search field.
3) Tap on the History button inside of the search text box.
4) Tap on the red Clear button at the top left of the app.
5) Confirm deleting your Apple Music search history by tapping on the red Clear Recent Searches button.
6) Your search history will be cleared and you’ll see the interface shown below if successful:
That’s all there is to it. You’ve cleared your Apple Music search history, and now nobody will be able to see what music you’ve searched for recently if you hand them your iOS device for any reason, such as the co-pilot scenario we talked about earlier.

Wrapping up

Please keep in mind that there is no way to delete your searches individually, as for some reason, Apple has limited you to clearing your entire search history only.
As a result, you should take it easy and use this feature with care because if you were intending to use your search history as a means of remembering a song you searched for a while ago, it’ll be gone the next time you use the Apple Music app.

How to view recent Safari history on iPhone and iPad

On any given day, I browse the web a lot—be it catching up on the news, doing research on future stories or skimming through my favorites to learn what’s the latest. And more often than not do I find myself struggling to make my way back to an article I stumbled upon a few hours ago.
Locating a specific item in browsing history can feel like finding a needle in the haystack, especially if you’re on the go.
Yes, I could just tap Safari’s back button multiple times or swipe to go back a single webpage at a time until I found the webpage I was looking for, but that’s a time-consuming process which unnecessarily wastes my iPhone’s cellular data.
As you’ll discover in this tutorial, Safari provides a very handy, though not immediately obvious shortcut which allows you to quickly jump to any previously visited webpage.

Viewing recent Safari history on iPhone and iPad

1) Launch Safari on your iOS device.
2) Tap and hold Safari’s back arrow button at the bottom left.
This will bring up a menu with the history list of webpages you viewed recently.
3) Tap any entry in your history to jump to that webpage.
Tip: Long-tapping Safari’s forward arrow button will also pull up the history list provided you jumped back to a recently visited webpage beforehand.
Keep in mind that the webpages you see in the list represent only that specific tab’s history. Since you’re unlikely to visit hundreds of webpages through a single Safari tab, your tab-specific history won’t be too long, making it easier to visually spot a recently visited webpage in the list.
If you want to access a history for another Safari tab, first switch to that tab and then long-tap the back/forward button. This feature works in desktop Safari on the Mac, too.
Clicking the back/forward buttons in Safari for Mac pulls up your history list. How’d you like this tutorial?
Tell us what you think and share some Safari tips of your own in the comments.

How to Find Mobile Data Used by Wi-Fi Assist on Your iPhone

In iOS 9, Apple released a brand new feature called Wi-Fi Assist. It was designed (quite intelligently), to automatically switch to cellular data when the Wi-Fi connection dropped. The feature, which is turned on by default, is designed to make the browsing experience seamless on iPhone even when the Wi-Fi connection wasn’t stable. But for some, it didn’t go so well.
Many users claimed that Wi-Fi Assist was using a lot of their cellular data. A teenager claimed that he received a $2000 cell phone bill because of Wi-Fi Assist. Some users have even filed a $5 million class action lawsuit.

Wi-Fi Assist Now Shows Data Usage

iOS 9.3 brought big banner features likeNight Shift and secured Notes. But as part of the many little things Apple added, was a data counter to the Wi-Fi Assist.
Now when you launch the Settings app and go to Cellular and scroll down to the “Wi-Fi Assist” button, you’ll see a little counter that shows exactly how much data the feature has used.
This should help Apple stay away from more legal trouble.
If you want to turn the feature off, it’s as easy as tapping that toggle button next to “Wi-Fi Assist”.

Should You Turn off Wi-Fi Assist?

While there have been edge cases when it comes to Wi-Fi Assist, on the whole, there aren’t any sure shot reasons to stop using it out right.
Let’s look at how this feature is designed.
When activated, the feature won’t download any big files, won’t auto update apps, or even stream audio or video. Plus, the feature doesn’t use background data at all and doesn’t work while you’re roaming. So if you’re scrolling through Instagram and the Wi-Fi drops, this feature will use cellular data only when the app is on screen. Once you quit it or go to another app, Instagram will stop using the data.
Overall, it seems like Apple put a considerable thought in the process and if you think the seamless browsing experience is worth iOS sometimes using your data plan, I’d say just keep it on.

“Cannot Get Mail” errors on your iPhone? Try this

Every so often when you go to refresh your emails from the Mail app in iOS, you may get an error message like the one shown above that reads, “Cannot Get Mail. The mail server imap.gmail.com is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.
The problem can be annoying; sometimes it may be an issue with your email settings, and sometimes it may just be a hiccup with the email server or internet connection you have established.
In this tutorial, we’ll go over some troubleshooting steps to get your email inbox to refresh as you would expect it to.

Why do these error occur?

Most of the time when an email inbox that normally works just fine experiences an issue where it displays the “Cannot Get Mail” error message, it’s going to be related to a hiccup in the internet connection or email server. In these cases, the fix is simply worked around with persistence.
In some scenarios, the problem can be related to your email settings, and some more in-depth troubleshooting may be required. In either case, we’ll go over a number of possible troubleshooting steps below so you can get your email account working again.

Possible fixes to the problem

We’ll start with the easiest and work our way down to the most complicated. We suggest starting small and working your way down the list so you don’t exert more energy than necessary to solve the problem with your email refreshing. Here are some things you can try:

Try refreshing the inbox again

Sometimes the problem can be due to a hiccup in your internet connection or your connection to the server. This is a best-case scenario, and is easily worked around by simply pulling down in your inbox to refresh your content.

Force-quit the Mail app

Sometimes the problem could be related to a glitch in the Mail app itself. In this instance, simply open the App Switcher, slide up on the Mail card, and go to the Home screen to re-launch the Mail app yet again so it can try to refresh your email inbox.

Check your internet connection

Do you have a strong enough cellular or Wi-Fi signal? If your signal is too weak, or you’re not connected at all, then this could be the source of your error message while trying to refresh your email inbox. Try getting closer to a wireless signal and see if the inbox refresh works afterwards.

Remove and re-add the troublesome email account

In some cases, the incoming and outgoing server information for your email account may no longer be accepted by the email server. Try removing your email account and re-adding it so that the Mail app can auto-configure the proper settings to refresh your email inbox.
Here are the steps:
1) Launch the Settings app and open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preferences cell.
2) Open the email account you’re having issues with, and in the following pane, tap on the red Delete Account button.
After you’ve removed the account, you’ll now want to try and re-add it to your Mail app again. To do that, follow these steps:
1) Launch the Settings app and, once again, open the Mail, Contacts, Calendarspreferences cell.
2) This time, tap on the Add Account button.
3) Choose from the list of email providers so you can sign in to your email provider to receive emails yet again.
4) Log in with your username and password as you’re prompted:

Manually configure server, port, and authentication options

In some cases, the email server may be denying you access because either your ISP is blocking certain ports, or you are using the incorrect incoming and outgoing server settings.
In some cases, you will have to use a special outgoing server provided by your ISP, which is common with some email accounts when trying to send outgoing emails on Verizon FiOSand some other ISPs. In others, you can just configure different ports to be used so that SSL isn’t being called for on a server that doesn’t support it, or vice-versa, as this can cause issues.
Here are the steps to adjust your email account’s outgoing and incoming server settings; we’ll begin with the outgoing settings:
1) Launch the Settings app and open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preferences cell, then choose the email account you’re having problems with.
2) Tap on the Account button with your email address inside of it.
3) Tap on the cell under the Outgoing Mail Server header so you can configure your outgoing email server for this account.
4) Tap on your primary server that is being used to fetch emails for this account.
5) Under the Outgoing Mail Server header, adjust the host name (server address), username (email address), password, SSL settings, authentication method, and server port number as necessary to comply with the server’s true settings.
In some cases, and I’ve been involved in scenarios like this myself, the server port is set to something that the server doesn’t actually support. For example, I once worked for a company where the email server didn’t support SSL, but I had SSL enabled, and so my device couldn’t send email because it wasn’t able to find a secure connection.
Sometimes, having the incorrectly-typed password can cause issues as well, so simply re-typing it may help solve this problem.
Now that your outgoing settings have been configured how you want them, move on to the incoming email settings:
1) Launch the Settings app and open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preferences cell, then open the email account you’re having problems with.
2) Tap on the Advanced button to bring up more settings.
3) Under the section with the Incoming Settings header, adjust the SSL settings, IMAP Path Prefix, and server port number as necessary to comply with the server you’re receiving emails from.
Once you’re content with the new incoming and outgoing settings, you can force-quit the Mail app, then re-launch it again and try to refresh your email inbox to see if the new settings work any better than the older settings.

Wrapping up

Typically, unless the email server itself is experiencing some kind of down-time, following the step checklist above will help you to get your email inbox refreshed again on the spot.
