Apple rumored to launch a 5.8-inch iPhone with OLED display in 2017 or 2018

Apple could be adding yet another iPhone to the family lineage, if a new report is any indication of Apple’s future plans.
According to a pre-publication report from DigiTimes, which was surfaced by The Motley Fool, Apple has plans to release an iPhone with a 5.8-inch OLED display at some point in the (relatively) near future. That would make it the biggest iPhone, surpassing Apple’s current leader with the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus. According to the report, Apple could launch the OLED-equipped iPhone in either 2017 or 2018.
Past rumors have echoed the belief that Apple is adopting OLED technology for the iPhone lineup, with those same reportssuggesting a launch in 2017 or 2018 as well.
Through estimations put together by the original report, OLED displays would see a significant output within the first 12 months. However, at the same time, those would still just be a fraction of the 200 million iPhones the company has sold recently:
“Per the note, DIGITIMES’ supply chain sources believe that 50 million of these AMOLED-equipped iPhones will make it out to customers in the first year of availability.”
As it stands, OLED appears to be a ways out for Apple, if the company plans on adopting the technology at all. There’s an event rumored to take place in March of this year, where Apple will reportedly unveil a 4-inch iPhone SE and a 9.7-inch iPad Pro, but neither of those products have been rumored to feature an OLED display.
Can you wait until 2017 or 2018 to get an OLED iPhone?
